Banner Beekeepers are running a beginners beekeeping course starting on Wednesday 25th October to run for 7 weeks – one evening a week. Anyone interested please contact Frank at burrenbees@gmail.com

Banner Beekeepers will have their open day on Monday June 5th, the bank holiday Monday from 11.00am to 2.00pm at the Doora apiary.

The Doora apiary is located at the back of Father McNamara park V95 KX8E. When you enter Father McNamara park keep to the very left and drive through the gates, park up and walk the rest of the way in – 2 minute walk (or park in Father McNamara park).

Donegal bees also do wax exchange (wax for foundation) just let Thomas know in advance as to how much wax you will be trading so he can have the correct foundation with him.

Newbee’s/interested parties may avail of a guided visit to open a box of bee’s and look inside, bee suits will be provided.

BIOSECURITY ON THE DAY

No one is allowed to bring their own bee suit or gloves to the open day. We have association suits and gloves which will be available on the day.

I have had several confirmed reports of AFB in the area and I will do a disease inspection demonstration near the end of the day.

There will also be a talk/demonstration on Nucs and and their use as a method of swarm control.

Redmond Williams will give a talk on “preparing for spring”  in the Abbey room in Quin Hall on Tuesday 15th November at 8.00pm.

Quin Hall is in the middle of Quin village just beside the bridge over the river.

The Abbey room entrance is located around to the right near the back of the main building. Do not go in the main front door.

Our AGM will be held at the same location on 6th December at 8.00pm

Banner beekeepers had a fantastic honey show on 15th October. The honey show judge was the renowned Redmond Williams who remarked that the quality of Co. Clare honey was as usual very good. Cianna Wall was successful in the novice, junior and moulded candles classes. Frank Benson won the commercial class with Cliff Deegan picking up a few classes. Seconds and thirds were Larry Sweeney, Michael Curran, Tony Maher, Roisín Troy, Eamon Troy and John Wall. Frank Benson won the raffle and kindly donated the win to the association.

Banner Beekeepers Honey Show will be held on  Saturday 15^thOctober 2022 , At the College of Further Education and Training Ennis, Clon RD, Cappahard, Ennis, Co. Clare, V95 KT95

Participation is for members of BBKA only but is open to the public from 3.30pm to 4.30pm.

Up for raffle at our Honey Show is a National polystyrene Hive as per the picture below. This hive was gifted to Banner Beekeepers at our open day by Donegal Bees. Tickets/names in a hat are €10 each- cheap box for a tenner! The tickets are for sale at our honey show only. The draw will take place at the time of the prize giving. Apis Bee Supplies will be at the honey show and Chris will be set up by 2.30pm

Banner Beekeepers will have their open day on Bank Holiday Monday June 6th, 11.00am to 2.00pm at the Doora Apiary. The Doora apiary is located at the back of Father McNamara Park (the county camogie grounds). V95 KX8E

The trader on the day is Donegal Bees who have kindly offered a copy of their new catalogue for every member of Banner Beekeepers. The new catalogue is due out on May 6th and it will distribute shortly afterwards at the Doora Apiary. The secretary will keep members updated by email on this event.

Disease inspection demonstrations were held at the Doora Apiary on Saturday 30th April last. Weather conditions were ideal. Members of the association from all over the county attended and it was deemed to be a very successful venture. Participants completed an online questionnaire afterwards providing valuable feedback for the EDIBEE Team. Many thanks to Cliff Deegan for doing the demonstrations and to the members who attended.
